Hello everyone, I want to share how you
can get your phlebotomy license in California without paying high cost tuition
that most private school charges. Phlebotomist are health care workers that
draw blood in healthcare facility. After collecting the samples, they take them
back to the lab to sort them, centrifuge and enters information collected
(urine, blood samples etc).
School; Long Beach City College offers phlebotomy courses for free to qualified California residents. This course is offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer sessions. I took this course in the summer, it was 6 weeks and class was on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday from 9.00 AM-12.10 PM. The course consists of theory and Lab sectios. For the lab section we used mannequins and practiced on each other.
After the course, students are
scheduled for a 50 hours internship in the hospital. The hospital educational
coordinator trains students for 2 weeks usually 5 hours each day. After
the 50 hours are completed, you can take the State Licensing Exam which are
offered at the school. If you pass the state exam, a phlebotomy license will be
issued to you. Compared to other schools, Long
beach have an amazing program, you learn
more in 6 weeks than those two weeks courses offered at other private schools.
Also they have good hospital for their internship compared to other programs.
Employers trust their programs more than the weekend or two weeks crash course
offered at other school.
In terms of cost Long Beach
City College wins, it is completely free while private schools charges between
$1800-$5000 for their weekend or two weeks crash courses.
AVERAGE HOURLY PAY; $15-17 /HR.
WORK SCHEDULE; Very flexible, you can work per diem, part time, only on weekend, three hours per week or whatever works for you.
