COLOR The color of our urine tells us about the hydration state of our body and urine concentration. The function of the kidney is to concentrate our urine. The yellow color of urine comes from a pigment called Urochrome. It is a lipid soluble pigment that is present in the plasma and it is excreted in urine. A normal urine color is Yellow or straw yellow A concentrated urine is usually dark yellow while a dilute urine is pale yellow or colorless. A dilute urine can be due to excessive amount of urine as a result of Diabetes Mellitus or diabetes Inspidus. Concentrated urine could be due to dehydration, low blood volume, excessive sweating etc. Urine Foams; White foam that does not disappear indicates presence of protein. Foam usually disappears in a normal urine. Yellow foam that does not disappear indicates presence of albumin in the urine.
